Whether your egg represents a goal, an aspect of yourself, a spirit or servitor, a creative work, or an entirely new chapter of your life, the practice begins with one question: are you ready to begin the hatching?

Other practitioners and traditions may use the term “Dragon Egg Alchemy,” work with dragon eggs, or understand these concepts differently. The egg is one of nature’s oldest symbols of potential: something protected, developing, and not yet ready to emerge. Within the Hatchling Path, the Dragon Egg becomes an alchemical vessel for this process. By symbolically forging, tending, incubating, and eventually hatching a Dragon Egg, practitioners give form to a symbolic transformation as the dragon moves from possibility into reality.

The Dragon Egg was not chosen arbitrarily. Eggs already occupy an important place within alchemical philosophy as a symbol of containment, gestation, transformation, and the union of opposing forces. Dragon Egg Alchemy builds upon this historical language by placing the dragon (the creature of fire, transformation, chaos, treasure, and primordial power) within the symbolic vessel of the egg. The result is a modern draconic interpretation of an ancient alchemical idea: transformation must first be contained before it can hatch.

A Dragon Egg is forged through correspondence. Each material is chosen to embody a different aspect of the dragon developing within the egg, giving symbolic form to its roots, energy, heart, song, spirit, body, and blood. These ingredients do not need to be interpreted literally or supernaturally rather their meaning comes from the correspondences assigned to them by the practitioner. Together, they form the symbolic blueprint of the Hatchling you intend to nurture and eventually hatch.

Star Spinning is a symbolic method of bringing separate correspondences together into a unified Dragon Egg. Each point of the star holds an element of the developing Hatchling, while the egg rests at its center as the vessel where those elements converge. By spinning around the star or within a star drawn on the floor, the practitioner symbolically weaves each correspondence into the egg. Different star polygons may be used depending on the number of elements being combined, making the geometry itself part of the language of the practice.

Forging a Dragon Egg transforms Star Spinning from symbolic theory into an embodied practice. Practitioners may work with a physical Spinning Star Board, construct a larger star circle from materials such as selenite or salt, or perform the process entirely through meditation and visualization. The purpose remains the same: move through each point intentionally, contemplate its correspondence, and symbolically weave each element into the Dragon Egg at the center. There is no single required method as the exercise is intended to be adapted to the practitioner’s space, abilities, worldview, and personal practice.

Within Star Spinning, the geometry changes with the complexity of the Dragon Egg. Each point of the star represents one element, ingredient, quality, or correspondence being forged into the Hatchling. A simple three-element egg may begin with a triangle, while increasingly complex eggs can be mapped through five, six, seven, nine, eleven, thirteen or more pointed stars. The number itself does not determine the power of the egg. It provides a symbolic structure for organizing and unifying everything being placed within it.

Once a Dragon Egg has been forged, it enters a period of symbolic incubation. The nest is the environment created to support that process and can be designed around the nature, purpose, and correspondences of the individual Hatchling. Creating a nest that successfully incubates the Dragon Egg is precisely the challenge here and where most practitioners stall within their Dragon Egg craft. Just as no two Hatchlings need to be identical, no two nests need to look or function the same. The nest becomes the symbolic habitat in which the Dragon Egg is tended until it is ready to hatch.

Hatching is the culmination of Dragon Egg Alchemy within The Hatchling Path. The moment when what has been forged, nestled, and incubated is ready to emerge in a new form. There is no universal hatching method or required timeline. Depending on the practitioner’s worldview can ultimately determine one’s experiences when hatching Dragon Eggs. For some a Dragon Egg may hatch through ritual or meditation. Some may take a more experimental route and pursue physical transformation of the egg using various methods. For more symbolic methods it can come down to the completion of a personal goal, development of a certain talent or overcoming a challenge. May may have been gifted Dragon Eggs by dragon guardians and this process may look more like the emergence of a symbolic or spiritual Dragon. It can be as simple as another threshold recognized by the practitioner. Some eggs hatch quickly, others may be tended for years, and some may remain unhatched within our lifetime and are meant to be passed down generations. Within the Hatchling Path, knowing when and how an egg hatches is part of learning to trust your perception, intuition and timing within your craft.

Hatching a Dragon Egg is not the end of the practice for it is only the beginning. For many dragon practitioners hatching a Dragon Egg to bind with the Hatchling inside is their life’s magnum opus or great work. A Hatchling Guardian is simply the young Dragon newly hatched that has bonded with you. Whether understood as a spiritual being, psychological archetype, servitor, symbolic companion, or another personal interpretation, each Hatchling will take time and patience to understand. The purpose of working with Dragon Hatchlings is to humble ourselves enough to remember even a baby dragon has wisdom far beyond a grown adult human being.

The Mother of Dragons represents an advanced initiatory path within the DragonFaether Tradition of Dragon Spirituality. It is not a title earned simply by creating or hatching Dragon Eggs, but through sustained practice, experience, service, and demonstrated responsibility toward both Dragons and the people seeking to work with them. For those called to the Priestess path, becoming a Draconic High Priestess marks the transition from tending one’s own Hatchlings to helping guide others through their own journeys. Within Azura’s framework, this is a lifelong vocation rather than a destination. The work of the Mother of Dragons is centered around hatching Dragon Eggs and helping others work with Dragons in the way that is best for them without personal judgement regarding one’s worldview.
