Are You A Hatchling?

Originally, Hatchlings was simply the name for Azura DragonFaether’s YouTube audience, recommended by a viewer. Over time, being a Hatchling grew into a subcultural identity.

A Hatchling is a geeky, cheeky and freaky individual, someone who doesn’t follow others but instead follows their own heart. Those often cast as weirdos, black sheep, or strange may find themselves at home within The Hatchling Clan.

“A Hatchling is a misfit where the only place we fit in is with each other.”

- Azura DragonFaether, The Hatchling Clan Founder

A Hatchling is someone who has often been through many hardships, and through these experiences has developed a hard shell.

A Hatchling is someone who feels at home with mythical creatures of all kinds, across history and their own imagination, but especially with the dragon. The Hatchlings love all cultures and finds wisdom within different perspectives. Someone who isn’t afraid to think outside the box and question the status quo.

And above all else, a Hatchling is committed to protecting what’s precious. From the elements of the earth and her animals, to the most marginalized and oppressed in society. We stand together to help all have the freedom to be their geeky, cheeky and freaky selves, no matter what anyone else says. We have a right to exist with dignity and peace.

By joining The Hatchling Clan, it is time to break out of your shell and discover the magic within yourself, for you were always the miracle. It’s time to remember that you are worthy, loved, and perfect just the way you are. If you have ever been rejected for simply being yourself, you are already a Hatchling. Welcome home.

A Hatchling History

The Hatchling Clan began as a community name and identity before it became a formal community space.

a bird's nest filled with stones and moss

In 2016, Azura DragonFaether was sponsored by Narvii Inc. to promote the Pagans & Witches Amino. As part of this collaboration, she was required to create video promotion, blog posts, and group chat spaces based on Hatchling community interests regarding dragons and other mythical creatures.

Within the Amino, she created four distinct chat rooms: one for dragons, one for the fae, one for unicorns, and one for phoenixes. While these spaces quickly attracted interest, they also sparked controversy among other practitioners who did not work with mythical beings and did not understand the nuanced differences between these practices.

Moderators, unaware of the sponsorship requirements, viewed the chats as excessive and shut them down, consolidating them into a single space. This decision erased the nuance between different mythical traditions and created further tension within the community.

Efforts to resolve the situation were unsuccessful, and Azura was issued a temporary strike, restricting her ability to communicate. During this period, she discovered the ability to create independent Amino communities.

On January 22, 2017, the Hatchling Clan Amino was formally founded by Azura DragonFaether for mythical creature based discussions and shared practice.

Originally created as a space for her YouTube audience to connect with her, the community quickly grew into something more. It became a place to explore spirituality, identity expression, and practices with mythical creatures without any limitations.

Over time, the Hatchling Clan developed into a hub for original practices and ideas cultivated within the community itself. These included systems such as Tiny Craft, DragonFae Craft, and the Hatchling Path, which later spread beyond the community into wider online spaces.

The Clan also fostered interactive engagement through challenges, activities, and community discussions, allowing members to actively contribute to its development.

As the community expanded, these contributions were organized into what became known as the Dragon Academia Archives. This is a growing body of knowledge documenting dragon-related practices, identities, and methodologies. This archive quickly evolved into the most extensive collections of dragon-focused spiritual content online at the time.

Within the Clan, Hatchling Houses were introduced as specialized spaces for identity-based study and connection. Hatchlings are encouraged to take the Sorting Quiz to see what house may be the best fit for them. Each house was developed with its own mascot, colors, and phrase, creating an experience often described as a real-world Hogwarts for individuals who love mythical creatures and the study of global spiritual, religious, and philosophical traditions.

Following the closure of the Amino platform, the Hatchling Clan and the Dragon Academia Archives transitioned to Discord and Patreon, where the community continues to grow, evolve, and preserve its dragon wisdom, cultural development and community creation of new paths and practices.

To learn more about the Dragon Academia Archives, readers are encouraged to explore the central homepage, where our full collection of dragon-based research and documentation is housed.

The Hatchling Houses

Hatchling Houses were originally created as private spaces where Hatchlings with shared interests could connect, collaborate, and contribute to the growth of the Clan community.

Over time, they evolved into a system of progression and study, beginning with the House of Earth and culminating in the House of Magic. This structure was designed to provide a free and accessible space for individuals to explore, practice, and deepen their understanding of various traditions, cultures, and philosophical paths from around the world.

While the Hatchling Houses are not a formal educational institution, they function as a self-guided system where individuals can challenge themselves, test their knowledge, and gain experience through participation in challenges, content creation, and research-based discovery.

There are currently 13 Houses, including a secret House, with additional hidden Houses to be revealed over time. The primary structure is rooted in elemental progression, expanding into more advanced and lesser-known concepts as Hatchlings continue their journey.

Each House carries its own mascot, colors, and defining phrase, allowing individuals to choose the House that resonates most with them in the present moment.

Within the Hatchling Clan Discord server, Hatchlings are free to join any Houses they feel called to. These Houses function as topic-based spaces for focused discussion, study, and collaboration across a wide range of subjects.

For those who wish to engage more deeply, the Hatchling Houses also offer a progression-based challenge system, allowing members to progress from House of Earth through House of Magic, with additional pathways unlocking over time.

The Houses are also a core space for community collaboration, where Hatchlings contribute to the creation of content that will be featured across the Clan’s platforms, including thehatchlingclan.com set to launch in 2026.

Participation in the Houses is entirely optional. After completing the Sorting Quiz, individuals may choose to follow their assigned House or select the one that resonates most with them. Multiple Houses may be explored simultaneously.

To join a House, members can select their roles within the Sorting Spire channel on the Hatchling Clan Discord server.

The Hatchling Houses are continuously evolving and are actively being refined and expanded. Community feedback is welcomed, and opportunities for moderation and leadership within the Houses are available for those who wish to contribute more deeply.

Widely regarded as the first real-world “Hogwarts-style” system for global participation, the Hatchling Houses offer an alternative, community-driven approach to the secular study of mythology, spirituality, religion, witchcraft, and symbolic philosophy.

The Hatchling Houses are more than just categories, they are reflections of where you are in your journey. Whether you are just beginning or stepping into deeper layers of understanding, there is a place for you within the Houses.

31 Days Of Samhain

Annual Hatchling Clan Halloween Festival

Originally pioneered through a long-form series in 2015, the 31 Days of Samhain officially began in October 2017 as an annual tradition within The Hatchling Clan.

Produced by Azura DragonFaether and the Hatchlings, for the Hatchlings, this series serves as the Clan’s official Halloween festival. First hosted on Amino and now continued on Discord, the celebration is accompanied by video content published on Azura DragonFaether’s channel.

The festival features a daily challenge for each day of October, offering 31 unique activities, prompts, meditations, spells, or rituals for Hatchlings to explore. Each year varies slightly in theme and execution while remaining centered on the celebration of Samhain.

These daily challenges are created by both Azura and members of the community, with a focus on helping Hatchlings deepen their understanding of their practice and to destigmatize the darker aspects of spiritual work.

The 31 Days of Samhain is not intended for everyone, but rather as a community-centered celebration for those who resonate with its purpose—honoring Halloween and remembering our roots.

This series is provided for educational purposes only and remains an optional feature within the Hatchling Clan. During the month of October, the Discord server hosts a dedicated 31 Days of Samhain channel where Hatchlings can participate in the festivities. The Clan’s visual identity also shifts seasonally, with the official logo adapting to reflect the celebration.

Following the closure of the Amino platform, many of the original challenge archives were lost. Since then, Hatchlings have worked collaboratively to preserve and recreate this content on more stable platforms, ensuring the tradition continues for years to come.

Future challenges will be hosted directly on the official Clan website as part of this ongoing archival effort.

If you are interested in participating in the annual festival, you may reach out to Azura DragonFaether via Discord or email at thedraconicpriestess@gmail.com.

Hatchling Clan Crafts

Over the years, the Hatchling Clan has become a creative incubator for new magickal practices, philosophies, and symbolic systems developed by Azura DragonFaether and the Hatchlings together. These evolving traditions reflect the Clan’s commitment to imagination, collaboration, and religious freedom.

The Hatchling Path

The Hatchling Path is the cornerstone craft of The Hatchling Clan and the practice our community is most widely known for. Centered around dragon eggs, hatching dragons, Hatchling Guardians, and servitor or egregore safety, this path explores the relationship between personal growth and symbolic dragon companionship.

At its heart, The Hatchling Path teaches that as we grow, our dragon grows with us. These dragons may be approached symbolically as reflections of our desires, strengths, healing journey, or unresolved trauma; offering a creative framework for transformation and self-understanding.

For some practitioners, the Hatchling Path may also be experienced spiritually and requires patience, discipline, and dedication. In most cases, dragon eggs take years to hatch as the practitioner matures alongside the process.

Traditionally, it is recommended not to create dragon eggs recklessly or in isolation, as unchecked practice may foster imbalance or power-seeking behavior. Within spiritual approaches, practitioners are encouraged to earn eggs through relationship-building with a trusted Dragon Guardian or Dragon Deity.

Because this craft can involve intense psychological symbolism and witchcraft experience, The Hatchling Path is considered an advanced practice. It is therefore reserved for dedicated learners within The Hatchling Clan Discord server primarily with additional resources on Patreon, where guidance, discussion, and responsible practice can be supported within our community spaces.

DragonFae Witchcraft

DragonFae Witchcraft is the most popular practice developed within the Hatchling Clan focused on the study and symbolism of DragonFae or mythical beings that do not fit neatly into a single category. This includes creatures not quite just a dragon, fae, mermaid, or other singular classifications, but rather exist somewhere in between as hybrid or liminal creatures.

The DragonFae is not a historically attested creature, but rather a modern synthesis created to help classify and work with mythological beings that blend multiple archetypes, forms, or traditions. In this sense, DragonFae Witchcraft centers on the exploration of creatures that cross boundaries that challenge rigid categories.

This practice was originally inspired by Oracle of the DragonFae by Lucy Cavendish, an oracle deck presenting a collection of hybrid mythical beings, many of which are goddesses from mythology. It is important to note there is no historical precedent for these goddesses being DragonFae, but rather a modern lense of interpretation of them.

Formally founded by Azura DragonFaether in 2020, DragonFae Witchcraft has continued to evolve as a system for studying mythical hybrids, shapeshifting identities, and the many ways creatures can merge across cultures and imagination. This also includes the study of DragonFaeKin, or individuals who feel they are DragonFae spiritually, psychologically or behaviorally in some capacity.

Within spiritual, pagan, and witchcraft contexts, this modern path was developed through the creative work of Azura DragonFaether and The Hatchling Clan community. Public teachings, discussions, and evolving interpretations continue to be shared through Azura DragonFaether’s YouTube channel and other platforms.

As interest in mythical creature spirituality has grown, DragonFae Witchcraft has become increasingly popular online, particularly on TikTok, where the concept of DragonFae especially within spirituality continues to expand outside of The Hatchling Clan and into modern practice.

Tiny Craft

Tiny Craft is the heart and soul of the Hatchling Clan. Centered on healing childhood trauma and reconnecting with the inner child, Tiny Craft is a practice of shadow work that incorporates cherished items and experiences from childhood. This includes but is not limited to, plushies, special blankets, toys, favorite television shows, video games, imagination, fantasy, and dream work.

At its core, Tiny Craft recognizes that many people already practice forms of this path but have never had formal language to describe it. For those who experienced traumatic childhoods, lost innocence, or never had the chance to fully enjoy being a kid, Tiny Craft offers a compassionate framework for healing through play, nostalgia, creativity, and radical self-acceptance.

This practice places a strong emphasis on fantasy and pop culture witchcraft, including symbolic work with beloved characters, stories, and media that shaped us. While not all pop culture witchcraft is Tiny Craft, much of the modern rise in these practices overlaps with its core principles: using imagination, symbolic meaning, and emotional connection as tools for transformation and healing.

Though Tiny Craft may appear cute or playful on the surface, it is often one of the deepest forms of shadow work within the Clan apart from Draconianism. For many, it means grieving the childhood they did not have, reclaiming joy that was robbed from them, and allowing oneself permission to play, imagine, and feel safe again.

Tiny Craft teaches that healing does not always come through discipline. Sometimes it comes through softness, wonder, and giving the inner child what they always deserved, unbridled joy.

Dragonscroller’96

Join The Hatchling Clan Discord server to play Start Dragonscroller’96, a roleplay research game for dragon trivia and learning dragon wisdom in a fun format.

Originally created as a roleplay and research experience to help Hatchlings learn about dragons, Dragonscroller’96 has evolved into an interactive progression game centered around dragon trivia, discovery, and exclusive rewards. Players answer dragon-related questions through their own research to earn in-server points known as Pickle Chips. As members collect chips and advance through the game, new prizes, unlockables, and status rewards become available.

To begin the journey, Hatchlings may submit a favorite photo and chosen username to our in-server Dragon Droid, who creates a personalized Student ID Card. This card can then be used to check in daily within the Attendance Chamber, earning additional rewards over time and helping players progress through the experience.

Participation in Dragonscroller’96 is completely optional, but those seeking dragon knowledge, playful competition, and deeper community involvement are encouraged to join. The game offers exclusive content that cannot be earned elsewhere, including collectible Dragonscroller Cards featuring real artwork from beloved dragon artists and talented Hatchlings within the community. These cards often include dragon facts, symbolic abilities, and creative or spiritual ways to engage with the featured dragons regardless of personal faith path.

Additional rewards may include downloadable PDFs, hidden bonuses, seasonal surprises, and exclusive eBooks available only through gameplay.

Imagine entering a realm somewhere between an old-school video game, Tron, and Sword Art Online except just for The Hatchling Clan. Inspired by Dragonology, Stranger Things, and Laserium, the original cosmic laser concert, Start Dragonscroller’96 is designed to feel like a dark fantasy retro video game where Hatchlings step into a digital universe of dragons, nostalgia, and adventure.
